Romanian coalition splits over state‑company reforms, vicepremier says
Interim Vicepremier Oana Gheorghiu said the Social Democratic Party (PSD) remained in the governing coalition while deficit‑reduction measures were implemented, but tensions erupted when discussions turned to reforms of state‑owned companies, their boards and reported losses. She explained that cooperation with Minister Ilie Bolojan was possible until tax hikes, but stopped once the focus shifted to board appointments, stating “brusc, nu se mai putea lucra cu Ilie Bolojan”. According to Gheorghiu, the rift began in January when reforms were introduced, leading to a break in the coalition.
Gheorghiu also complained about limited access to information from ministries, citing unresponsive or overly restrictive replies that referenced GDPR or confidentiality, which she described as “absurd”.
