Romanian Coast Guard unveils autonomous maritime surveillance platform

The Romanian Coast Guard demonstrated an autonomous surface‑and‑submersible vehicle, named Triton, at the passenger terminal in Constanța Port on 8 July. The platform, currently in testing, can operate for up to 30 days, dive to 100 metres, and is equipped with 360‑degree cameras, sonar, sensors and photovoltaic cells. Designed to monitor critical maritime infrastructure such as pipelines, communication lines and ports, the system aims to boost coastal safety and surveillance capabilities. The presentation was part of a broader strategy by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with officials including Police Commissioner Alexandru Oae and Ocean Aero President Oscar Rojas speaking about the vehicle’s unique dual‑mode operation.
