Romanian summer inspections impose over 750,000 lei in fines on seaside operators

During the first half of July 2026, the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) carried out inspections across Romanian seaside resorts. Inspectors issued 164 fines totalling more than 750,000 lei and delivered 191 warnings. They ordered the permanent removal of non‑conforming products worth over 39,000 lei, temporarily halted sales of items valued at more than 16,000 lei, and suspended services of three operators until deficiencies were corrected. Violations included operating in unauthorized spaces, inadequate information on accommodation and pricing, unsanitary conditions such as mold, broken sanitary fixtures, unwashed linens and mattresses, improper maintenance of pools and beach areas, use of degraded cooking oil, expired food, non‑compliant refrigeration units, and sale of unmarked toys and souvenirs.

The National Authority for Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety (ANSVSA) also continued its summer monitoring. From 1–13 July, it inspected 240 food‑service units inside fuel stations nationwide, issuing 31 fines of 218,300 lei and 20 warnings, as well as two suspension orders for serious breaches. Identified issues ranged from incomplete self‑control programmes and lack of staff training to improper labeling, storage deficiencies, missing refrigeration for animal by‑products, and unauthorised sandwich preparation.

In a regional phase covering Constanța and Tulcea (29 June‑12 July), ANSVSA performed 735 checks on food establishments, stores, depots and transport routes, applying 104 fines totalling 1,000,900 lei. The operation focused on preventing the distribution of unsafe food, especially ahead of the "Beach, Please!" festival in Costinești, which attracted over 150,000 attendees. No food‑borne illness cases were reported during the event.
