Romanian Consumer Authority fines operators over 3.7 million lei after nationwide inspections

In the first week of July 2026, Romania's National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) inspected more than 1,300 economic operators across the country. The inspections focused on the safety of food products and the conditions of public catering and leisure services. Inspectors identified numerous non‑conformities and issued 746 contravention fines totalling over 3.7 million lei, along with 564 warnings. Services were halted until deficiencies were corrected for 20 operators, and non‑conforming products were removed from the market – permanently for goods worth over 220,000 lei and temporarily for items valued at more than 108,000 lei. The total value of products examined exceeded 11 million lei.

Key violations included improper storage of mineral water, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages exposed to sunlight, failure to maintain recommended temperatures for perishable goods such as meat, dairy and fish, mold on meat, expired dairy products, fish with obvious organoleptic changes, degraded cooking oil, cracked eggs with impurities, inadequate maintenance of food premises, missing product identification, ice accumulation in frozen‑goods packaging, damaged plant products, heavily worn equipment, and unsafe conditions in amusement facilities, including incomplete age or height signage.
