Romanian consumer watchdog finds irregularities in 121 tons of vegetables at Bucharest wholesale market

The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) carried out inspections of more than 200 tons of vegetables at a wholesale platform in the Bucharest‑Ilfov region. It uncovered non‑conformities in 121 tons related to product classification, presentation, quality, labeling and the use of outdated standards.

The vegetables, imported from a non‑EU country, were accompanied by certificates claiming no pesticide residues, yet follow‑up tests detected three pesticide active substances, though within EU limits. ANPC imposed fines exceeding 80,000 lei and referred the matter to other competent authorities for further action.
