Romanian consumer watchdog fines firms over 5.15 million lei in weekly crackdown

The National Consumer Protection Authority (ANPC) in Romania carried out inspections of more than 1,800 economic operators between May 18 and May 22. It issued 1,114 fines totaling over 5.15 million lei.

The enforcement action led to the permanent removal of non‑conforming products worth more than 300,000 lei, the temporary suspension of sales valued at about 1.1 million lei, and the suspension of nine operators until deficiencies were corrected. Common violations included rotten plant‑based foods, missing country‑of‑origin or quality labels, placement of plant‑fat products near dairy items, ice buildup in frozen‑food packaging, expired or damaged packaging, lack of metrological checks on measuring devices, absent price and consumer information, incomplete textile fibre composition details, missing manufacturer or importer identifiers, absent material information for toys, and the lack of Romanian‑language usage instructions.
