Romanian inspectors flag irregularities in disability care centers
In May, the County Agency for Payments and Social Inspection (AJPIS) in Botoșani carried out ten inspection missions targeting five residential centers for adults with disabilities. Inspectors identified a series of non‑conformities and issued 26 remedial measures, including reevaluating protection decisions, revising service contracts, filling vacant staff positions, setting a standard monthly maintenance cost, and ensuring balanced meals with at least three weekly desserts.
AJPIS inspectors in Gorj conducted nine missions during the same month, covering five disability residential centers and two other social services. They uncovered widespread deficiencies such as unapproved maintenance costs, inadequate staffing ratios, missing beneficiary documents, and lack of formal protection decisions. The agency ordered a total of 267 remedial actions—11 for the social‑service inspections and 256 for benefit‑related irregularities, including the recovery of wrongly paid assistance funds. Implementation of all measures will be monitored by the inspectors according to the stipulated deadlines.
