Romanian court receives citizen's request to dissolve RMDSZ and other parties

A private individual from Brașov, Nicodim Eugen Lupea, filed simultaneous petitions on 16 June with a Bucharest court seeking the dissolution of three political parties – the National Liberal Party (PNL), the USR alliance and the Hungarian minority party RMDSZ. The filings cite alleged violations of the constitutional order, but Romanian law requires a prosecutor to initiate such actions, so the court has not set a hearing date and may dismiss the requests.

In a related political context, RMDSZ president Kelemen Hunor told Maszol that the party is not a junior partner to the PSD or PNL and discussed ongoing coalition talks. He noted the rise of the nationalist AUR party, which he says is being positioned as a potential governing force, and suggested that a minority government backed by PSD, PNL and RMDSZ could be formed for the coming legislative term.
