Romanian courts move against drunk drivers after accidents in Argeș and Alba

In Argeș County, police stopped a 62‑year‑old driver from Bucharest after detecting signs of intoxication while he was driving on Bulevardul Basarabilor. The driver failed a breathalyzer test, was taken to a hospital for blood sampling, had his licence suspended and a provisional document issued without the right to drive.

In Alba County, a man was charged with driving under the influence after his Volkswagen overturned on DJ 107 near Jidvei, causing material damage but no injuries. Toxicology results showed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.74 mg/l and blood alcohol levels of 1.62 g/l and 1.47 g/l. The Preliminary Chamber of the Blaj Court confirmed the legality of the case and ordered the trial to proceed, with penalties ranging from one to five years in prison or a fine.
