Romanian Defense Deploys British Eurofighters After Suspicious Drone Near Ukraine Border

On 1 July at 13:20, Romania’s air‑defence radar detected an unidentified aerial target about 30 km from the border town of Vâlcove, near the Danube and the Ukrainian frontier. The National Military Command Centre alerted the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, issuing an RO‑Alert for the northern Tulcea County at 14:09.

At 14:10, two British Eurofighter Typhoon fighters from the 86th Air Base at Fetești and a Romanian IAR 330 Puma helicopter were scrambled to monitor the airspace along the border. Officials reported no unauthorized entry into national airspace and no impact on the ground.

Later, a fragment of a drone was found near the village of Rachelu in Luncavița, Tulcea County. Specialists from the Ministry of National Defence confirmed the presence of an explosive charge, which was detonated safely in a controlled operation, posing no danger to civilians or personnel.
