Romanian energy sector secures over €2 billion in financing for projects

Romanian renewable and conventional energy companies have attracted substantial financing in 2026. FomCo Solar reported the completion of large photovoltaic installations, notably the Aquaserv project covering 16 sites with a total installed capacity of 6.38 MW and 13,824 panels, illustrating growing domestic expertise in complex solar deployments.

At the same time, Nuclearelectrica, operator of the Cernavodă nuclear plant, confirmed an €800 million loan from the European Investment Bank to modernise Unit 1, marking a historic level of funding for Romania’s nuclear sector. Danish investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners secured €510 million for the 392 MW Peștera II offshore wind farm in Constanța, while the regional renewable producer Enery obtained €460 million of syndicated green finance from a seven‑bank consortium. Together these deals highlight a surge in capital flowing into Romania’s power generation, grid, storage and renewable projects across multiple verticals.
