Experts in Romania explained how the choice of clothing can help people stay cool during extreme heat. While white garments reflect sunlight, the study of Bedouins shows that colour matters less than fabric thickness and cut. Loose, light‑coloured garments allow warm air to rise away from the body, creating a cooling airflow. Breathable materials such as linen, thin cotton or chiffon are recommended, whereas heavy denim or tight‑fitting clothes trap heat.

Using appropriate attire can reduce reliance on air‑conditioning, lowering energy consumption and greenhouse‑gas emissions as heat waves become more frequent due to climate change.
