Romanian radar systems detected a group of aerial targets close to the Danube border with Ukraine on the night of 30 July 2024. The objects remained outside Romanian airspace, stayed in the vicinity for about 20 seconds and then moved back toward Ukraine, where explosions were later reported.

The National Defence Ministry activated a RO‑Alert for residents of Tulcea County, warning them to stay in shelters for roughly 90 minutes. In response, the Romanian Air Force scrambled two F‑16 fighters from Borcea Air Base, and the United Kingdom contributed two Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to monitor the situation. All alerted aircraft returned to base after the targets disappeared from radar and the alert was lifted at 09:37.

The incidents were described by officials as part of a surge in Russian drone activity over Ukrainian infrastructure near the Romanian border. No civilian evacuations were ordered, and authorities urged the public to remain calm.
