Romanian farmers seek urgent aid for rising fertilizer costs

The Forum of Professional Farmers and Processors in Romania (APPR Forum) is calling for urgent government intervention to support farmers facing significantly higher fertilizer costs. The organization has requested that authorities operationalize support measures immediately, noting that nitrogen fertilizer prices have risen approximately 70% compared to 2024 levels.

APPR Forum is urging the rapid deployment of approximately €29.98 million in European funds allocated to Romania. They propose that these funds, potentially supplemented by national budget contributions to reach nearly €90 million, be used for direct aid for fertilizer purchases. Key requests include simplified administrative procedures, eligibility criteria adapted to farm realities, and the inclusion of fertilizer purchases already made.

Crucially, the organization emphasizes that payments must be made before major fertilization periods to influence decisions for the 2026–2027 agricultural campaign. Without timely support, farmers may be forced to reduce fertilizer doses, decrease cultivated areas, or delay input purchases.
