Romanian and Moldovan regions battle extensive vegetation fires

Firefighters in Romania and Moldova have been confronting a wave of vegetation fires during July 2026. In Romania's Botoșani county, three separate blazes burned roughly 200 m², two hectares and 20 ha respectively, prompting intervention by military and volunteer units. The Argeș fire inspectorate reported about 160 dry‑vegetation fires across the county since January, attributing many to open flames and high temperatures.

In Moldova, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations saved around 25 ha of wheat near Telenești after a field fire destroyed 15 ha of grain, while a separate incident in the village of Țambula consumed about 10 ha of fallow land. Additional fires were reported in Lopadea Nouă (≈6 000 m²) and several localities in Botoșani, some sparked by electrical faults.

Authorities stress the need for strict compliance with fire‑prevention rules during agricultural work and warn that unchecked wildfires threaten homes, crops and local economies across the region.
