Romanian food safety authority imposes fines on gas‑station eateries

The National Authority for Veterinary and Food Safety (ANSVSA) carried out inspections of food‑service units inside gas stations across Romania from 15‑29 June 2026. Inspectors examined 445 locations and issued 32 fines totalling 258,800 lei, along with 34 warnings. They also ordered the withdrawal and neutralisation of 36.54 kg of frozen pastry products worth 2,507 lei.

Common violations included preparation of sandwiches without sanitary‑veterinary approval, lack of refrigerated storage for animal‑origin by‑products, improperly labelled waste containers, outdated temperature logs, inadequate food labelling and storage, damaged storage floors, insufficient staff training and incomplete self‑control programmes. ANSVSA president Alexandru Nicolae Bociu stressed that “gas stations have become a common place for many Romanians to buy coffee, a sandwich or pastry, and the same hygiene and safety rules apply as in any other food‑service establishment.” The authority said that further controls will continue to ensure compliance and protect consumer health.
