Romanian food safety inspections result in 142 fines

In May, Romania's National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) carried out 8,980 inspections of non‑animal food producers, including bakeries, pastry shops, soft‑drink and alcohol manufacturers. The checks targeted hygiene, storage conditions, HACCP implementation, labeling, traceability and staff documentation.

The inspections led to 105 warnings and 142 contraventional fines totalling 1,270,400 lei. Samples were also taken for laboratory analysis of pesticide residues and other contaminants. ANSVSA president Alexandru Nicolae Bociu said that "respecting hygiene, traceability and self‑control procedures is not only a legal obligation but essential for guaranteeing food safety."
