Romania places most of country under yellow storm warnings as severe winds, hail and heavy rain hit
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued two yellow‑code alerts covering July 8‑10 2026 for the majority of Romania. The warnings affect 37 counties and Bucharest, with forecasts of gusts of 50‑70 km/h and isolated peaks over 80 km/h, thunderstorms, hail of 1‑3 cm and rainfall that can reach 15‑40 l/m² within one to three hours, raising flash‑flood risks.
Impacted regions include Banat, Crișana, Maramureș, Transylvania, Moldova, Dobrogea, Oltenia and Muntenia. A second alert, valid from July 9 12:00 to July 10 02:00, targets Muntenia, Dobrogea, western and southern Moldova with similar severe conditions. Authorities have activated emergency response units, including RAJA’s command centre and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), urging residents to avoid travel, secure property and stay informed.
The alerts will be gradually lifted after July 10 as atmospheric instability eases and precipitation diminishes.
