Romanian Foreign Ministry alerts travelers to fire risk in France, Portugal
Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel warning for citizens heading to southern France after a red wildfire alert (very severe) was declared for the departments of Bouches‑du‑Rhone, Hérault, Aude, Gard, Vaucluse and Pyrénées‑Orientales, with an orange alert (high risk) for Var. The ministry advises Romanians to avoid affected areas, follow local authorities, keep emergency numbers 112 and 18 handy, and contact Romanian consulates in Marseille, Paris, Lyon or Strasbourg for assistance.
A separate warning was released for Portugal, where authorities placed the entire continental region under fire‑risk alert from 3 – 6 July 2026 due to extreme weather conditions. Romanian travelers are urged to monitor Portuguese alerts, consult the relevant websites, and can reach the Romanian embassy in Lisbon on the listed phone numbers for consular help in emergencies.
