Romanian travel warnings for natural hazards

Overview

Since early July 2026 Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a series of travel alerts for citizens facing severe natural events abroad. The first alert on 2 July warned against wildfires in southern France and Portugal. A 9 July notice highlighted Typhoon Bavi’s strong winds, heavy rain, flooding and landslides across China’s coastal provinces. On 28 July the ministry expanded its fire‑risk warning to Spain and, for the first time, to Greece, as an intense heat wave is expected to keep fire danger at extreme levels through at least 2 August 2026. In Spain the advisory covers the south‑west river valleys, the Ebro Valley, north‑eastern depressions, the Pyrenees and the Canary Islands; in Greece it lists high‑risk zones such as Attica, the Peloponnese, Central Greece, the North Aegean islands, the Cyclades and Crete. Travelers are urged to follow local authority instructions, obey evacuation orders and traffic restrictions, and to use the “Călătorește informat” app for up‑to‑date information. Consular assistance remains available through Romanian embassies and consulates. The fire season has already scorched more than 170 000 hectares across Spain, Portugal and France, destroying over 240 homes and prompting the evacuation of roughly 220 000 people; two Greek firefighters died on Crete while battling the blazes.
