Romanian forensic doctors suspend work in nationwide protest over funding

Forensic doctors and medical‑legal staff in Romania will temporarily halt their work for two hours on 11 June 2026, staging a coordinated protest across the country. The disruption will be limited to non‑emergency activities, with only urgent medico‑judicial services remaining operational.

The protest targets the government's Emergency Ordinance No. 7/2026, which the medical‑legal union says introduces discriminatory financing and salary provisions that jeopardise the quality and speed of criminal investigations and court proceedings. The union is demanding a real dialogue with the Parliament, the Government and the Ministry of Health, the revision of the ordinance and an adequate budget to ensure the constitutional role of forensic medicine in the justice system.
