Romanian founders and investors ride US tech surge as SpaceX IPO tops markets

A recent National Foundation for American Policy report listed ten U.S. unicorns founded or co‑founded by Romanians, raising the country’s count from six the previous year. Immigrant entrepreneurs now account for 59 % of all U.S. billion‑dollar private firms, with Romanian‑led companies valued at roughly $5 trillion collectively.

SpaceX’s debut on the Nasdaq lifted its market value to about $2.3 trillion, briefly pushing Elon Musk’s net worth past $1 trillion. Romanian investors bought roughly $2.5 million of the stock in the first trading hour. At the same time, the European Commission cut Romania’s 2025‑26 growth forecast to 0.1 % and inflation edged up to nearly 11 %, intensifying pressure on the domestic economy.

Separately, SpaceX secured a contract with Google worth about $920 million per month for AI computing capacity, underscoring the company’s push into artificial‑intelligence infrastructure beyond its traditional aerospace activities.
