Romanian fuel prices rise above 9 lei per litre for gasoline and 10 lei for diesel
On July 24‑25, fuel retailers in Bucharest raised pump prices again. At OMV Petrom stations gasoline reached 9.02 lei per litre and diesel 9.84 lei, while OMV’s own stations posted 9.94 lei for diesel. Rompetrol, Lukoil, SOCAR and MOL also increased diesel by 5‑10 bani per litre, bringing most chain prices close to 10 lei per litre. The price hikes follow a broader upward trend driven by rising international crude oil benchmarks, despite a recent dip in global oil prices.
The increases affect commuters and transport operators across the capital, with only a few stations (e.g., some MOL locations) still offering gasoline below the 9‑lei threshold. Analysts note that Romania relies heavily on imported fuel, making domestic prices sensitive to global market fluctuations.
