Romanian government approves 952 million‑lei renovation of Carol Davila medical faculty

The Romanian government has approved a historic investment of 952.74 million lei to restore, consolidate and modernise the Faculty of Medicine building at Universitatea de Medicină şi Farmacie "Carol Davila" in Bucharest. The project will preserve the neoclassical monument designed by Swiss architect Louis Blanc, improve seismic safety, upgrade utilities, add new classrooms and laboratories in the attic and roof spaces, and maintain over 15,000 m² of green areas. The renovation is slated to last 36 months and will be financed from state funds, university revenues, European Union grants and a possible loan from the European Investment Bank.

University rector Viorel Jinga called the decision “a historic moment” for the institution, emphasizing that the works will protect the cultural heritage while providing modern facilities for students, teachers and researchers in the medical field.
