Romanian government approves emergency aid for Galaţi drone‑crash victims
The Romanian Government held an extraordinary session to adopt a decree granting emergency financial assistance to individuals and households whose homes were damaged when a drone crashed in Galaţi on the night of 29 May 2026. The aid scheme provides tiered payments based on the extent of damage: up to 30,000 lei for completely destroyed dwellings, 25,000 lei for severe but partial damage, 15,000 lei for lesser damage, and 1,000 lei for people evacuated for immediate needs. The total budget for the programme is capped at 1 million lei and will be disbursed by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity using funds from the government’s reserve budget. Two people were injured in the incident and more than 70 residents were evacuated, with temporary accommodation arranged by local authorities. Technical commissions appointed by the county prefect will assess damage on site to determine eligibility and payment amounts.
