Romanian government earmarks over 20 million lei for fire victims and relocation of vulnerable people

The Romanian Government approved a package of more than 20 million lei from the state reserve fund to cover the relocation of about 409 vulnerable persons who had been housed in illegal facilities run by Viorel Pașca in Bihor County. The money is being distributed to 23 administrative units, with the largest allocations to Satu Mare (≈2.7 million lei), Cluj (≈2.6 million lei) and Sibiu (≈2 million lei).

In addition, a separate allocation of 1.5 million lei was assigned to Botoșani County to support vulnerable adults and seniors transferred from the Bihor homes.

The Government also adopted new emergency assistance rules for the victims of the April 26 fire in Rucăreni village, Soveja commune, Vrancea County. 32 houses were destroyed, 27 families lost their homes and more than 300 people were evacuated. Aid will cover up to 90 % of assessed damage for authorized or non‑authorized constructions and 75 % where permits were required but missing. The procedure is simplified: beneficiaries do not need to file applications or undergo social investigations, and the new aid supplements the earlier 800 000‑lei emergency support.

These measures were part of a broader government agenda to increase the financial capacity of local authorities and to respond quickly to recent disasters.
