Romanian high school launches EU‑funded “SUPER” project to cut dropout

Liceul Tehnologic Ovid Densușianu in Călan, Hunedoara County, has begun the “SUPER” (Școlari Unici, Participativi, Eficienţi, Realizaţi) project, financed by EU funds under the National Programme for Reducing School Drop‑out (PNRAS). The initiative provides teacher training, modern teaching tools and support programmes aimed at keeping at‑risk students in school and improving inclusive, innovative teaching methods.

Separately, the inspectorate of Alba County disclosed a controversial practice in Romanian schools where pupils with poor results are either held back or advised not to sit the National Exam to protect school performance statistics. Inspector Cornel Sandu reported that both urban and rural schools discourage students from registering for the exam, even though participation is a prerequisite for admission priority in the computerised placement system. The practice raises concerns about transparency and fairness in the national education system.
