A1 Pitești‑Sibiu motorway section 4 nears completion in Romania

The 9.86‑km section 4 of the A1 Sibiu‑Pitești motorway, covering the Tigveni‑Curtea de Argeș stretch, is about 95 % finished. The Austrian contractor PORR has mobilised roughly 350 workers and 156 machines to lay the final asphalt layer, install drainage, bridge works and safety installations. The contractor is also completing works on the 1 350‑m Momaia tunnel, including mechanical, electrical and ITS systems, and conducting fire‑ and smoke‑tests in the coming months. CNAIR director Cristian Pistol said that, if the current pace continues, traffic could open on the section by the end of 2026, several months before the contractual deadline of February 2027. Completion of this segment will bring the total open length of the A1 to about 54 km of the planned 122 km.
