Romanian hospital projects in Brașov and Buzău face approval hurdles and advance planning

In Brașov, the modernization of the Regina Maria Military Emergency Hospital has been delayed after the Brașov Heritage Monuments Commission rejected the technical documentation for Pavilion B, citing insufficient detail on materials, finishes and interior interventions. The project, which also includes building a new operational pavilion with 125 beds and seven operating theatres, will need revised plans before the commission can issue a favorable opinion.

In Buzău, the municipal hospital project has moved forward with the completion of a feasibility study. Mayor Constantin Toma announced that the study was finalized, and the site—donated by a local businessman who also funded the study and the zonal urban plan—covers nearly 7 hectares. The planned facility will have up to 300 beds and will be part of a larger complex that includes a university medical centre, staff housing, a nursing home, commercial spaces and green areas. The next phases will involve technical design and construction, which are expected to be financially demanding.

Both projects illustrate Romania’s ongoing efforts to expand and upgrade its healthcare infrastructure, while navigating regulatory and funding challenges.
