Romanian Hospitals Introduce Cutting-Edge Minimally Invasive Procedures

The County Emergency Clinical Hospital in Sibiu performed the first gynecologic surgeries using the V‑NOTES (Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery) technique. Seven patients underwent total hysterectomy with bilateral adnexectomy, and one case included sentinel lymph node mapping for endometrial cancer. Gynecologist Marian Codru, trained in Timișoara, highlighted the benefits of V‑NOTES such as no abdominal scars, reduced postoperative pain, early mobilisation and faster recovery.

At the Clinical Rehabilitation Hospital in Cluj‑Napoca, cardiologists carried out the first procedures with Medtronic's Affera 3‑D mapping and ablation system, a high‑performance electro‑physiology tool for diagnosing and treating cardiac rhythm disorders. The team, led by physicians Radu Roșu, Mihai Puiu, Gelu Simu and Ioan‑Alexandru Minciună, created detailed electrical maps of patients' hearts and performed targeted ablations to block abnormal signals. Both hospitals cite the introduction of these advanced minimally invasive techniques as a step forward for patient care in Romania.
