Romanian interim Vice‑Premier Oana Gheorghiu says coalition split over state firm reforms

Interim Vice‑Premier Oana Gheorghiu said the decisive moment for the coalition rupture was the government's launch of reviews of state‑owned companies and their board appointments, rather than the earlier fiscal measures aimed at cutting the budget deficit. She noted that tensions became evident at the start of the year when the administration began scrutinising the performance and governance of these firms, leading to “major position differences” within the coalition.

Gheorghiu also reported difficulty obtaining necessary information from several ministries, citing frequent refusals or vague GDPR and confidentiality excuses. She explained that the interim cabinet can manage current issues but lacks authority to issue emergency ordinances or make legislative changes without parliamentary approval.
