Romanian labour inspectorate urges collective bargaining rights and heat‑wave workplace safety

The Territorial Labour Inspectorate (ITM) in Olt County launched an information campaign for both employers and employees on collective bargaining. It explains that collective labour contracts can be concluded at unit, sector, national or public‑institution level when a workplace has at least ten employees, and outlines the role of unions and elected employee representatives in protecting workers’ rights.

In Timis County, the ITM reminded employers of their legal duty under Order 99/2000 to implement protective measures during extreme heat (temperatures above 37 °C). Required actions include reducing work intensity, ensuring ventilation, providing ample drinking water, personal protective equipment and showers, and, if necessary, shortening or suspending work shifts. Non‑compliance may be fined between 1,500 and 2,500 lei.
