Romanian lawmakers call for early elections amid political crisis

Romanian lawmakers are calling for early elections as the country faces a prolonged political crisis following four months of interim governance. USR deputy Ionuț Moșteanu argued that the current parliamentary configuration has failed to produce a functional majority, suggesting that if a new prime ministerial appointment fails to secure parliamentary support, the country must return to the polls to restore democratic legitimacy.

Simona Elena Macovei, a deputy for S.O.S. România, echoed these concerns, stating that the nation cannot be governed indefinitely through interim measures. She highlighted that the lack of a full government has led to serious functional issues, including the absence of a budget rectification. This fiscal uncertainty is reportedly impacting essential services, such as county ambulance services and emergency units.

Both representatives criticized the inability of political parties to form a stable majority, noting that while negotiations continue, local administrations and public investment projects remain stalled due to a lack of financial resources.
