Romanian leaders demand stronger response after Constanța drone explosion

A drone loaded with explosives self‑detonated in the Port of Constanța, prompting preventive evacuations of nearby coastal areas and access restrictions to the beaches. Prime‑minister‑designate Eugen Tomac said the incident shows that "security incidents are increasing" and urged institutions to raise vigilance, communicate clearly to avoid conspiracy theories, and called for the swift formation of a full‑power government, stating that "the faster we have a full‑power government, the better".

Former premier Victor Ponta denounced the political leadership, describing Romania as "a village without dogs, led by the fools of the village" and accusing officials of wasteful spending and incompetence. He argued that billions spent on defence have not ensured safety and demanded a radical overhaul of the current administration.

Both politicians used the drone incidents – also reported in Galaţi – to criticize the existing government's handling of security threats and to push for stronger, more coordinated state action.
