Romanian leu falls against euro and dollar as BNR posts rates
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) published its Friday reference rates, showing the Romanian leu continuing to lose ground against major currencies. The euro rose to 5.2554 lei, the US dollar to 4.5584 lei, the pound sterling to 6.1277 lei and the Swiss franc to 5.6244 lei. ROBOR indices remained unchanged, with the three‑month rate at 5.84% and the six‑month rate at 5.92%, keeping loan costs high.
In the Republic of Moldova, the National Bank of Moldova set the official exchange rate for 7 August at 20.0493 lei per euro, a modest 0.43 bani gain versus the previous day, and a similar small rise against the US dollar. This indicates a slight appreciation of the Moldovan leu against these currencies.
