Romanian leu weakens, euro climbs after Adrian Veștea named prime minister

The National Bank of Romania reported the euro at 5.2380 lei, up 0.05% from the previous Friday, while the leu slightly appreciated against the US dollar, which fell to 4.5124 lei, down 0.15%. The franc was priced at 5.6891 lei, a rise of 0.78 bani, and gold surged to 629.7073 lei per gram, a gain of over 16 lei.

The currency movements followed the presidential appointment of liberal Adrian Veștea as prime minister, a decision that sparked internal tension within the National Liberal Party (PNL). Party leaders claimed the appointment had not been discussed through official channels, prompting an emergency meeting of the party’s Political Bureau to determine its stance on the new government formation.
