Romanian man arrested with drugs in Budapest's Népliget

On the morning of July 29, a 30‑year‑old Romanian man was stopped by a K‑9 unit of the Hungarian police in Budapest’s Népliget. During a routine check, officers found two glass pipes, a crack pipe, a zip‑lock bag, ten sterile syringes, plastic tubing and a lighter in his pockets, with drug‑related residues detected in the pipes. The man was taken to the X District Police Headquarters for a criminal proceeding on drug possession. The operation was part of a broader police sweep that resulted in 63 arrests and 56 summonses across the city.

The three service dogs – Lexus, Johnny and Duke – and their handlers attracted attention from passers‑by, who photographed the scene. The suspect was also wanted in Vác for a separate disappearance investigation, prompting a nationwide alert.
