Salvamont Romania records multiple mountain rescues, two deaths in recent week

The Romanian mountain rescue service Salvamont has been active across several regions. After more than 45 years operating from Lacul Bucura in the Retezat National Park, the Lupeni unit relocated its permanent camp in late June and reminded hikers of changing weather, required equipment and the 112 emergency number.

In the Cheile Râmețului area, a tourist from Cluj‑Napoca who fell on a trail was rescued by Salvamont teams. In the Bucegi Massif, three hikers – a 77‑year‑old man, a 49‑year‑old woman and another 49‑year‑old woman with a knee injury – were recovered, the latter with helicopter assistance. A Polish group of 37 tourists was also escorted down near Vatra Dornei after a mother bear and cub were spotted.

Salvamont reported a critical day with 15 emergency calls, interventions in nine counties, 17 people aided, three taken for medical examination, four air‑lifted, and two fatalities whose bodies were handed to the forensic service. The agency also answered 29 requests for trail information, urging caution and responsibility on the mountains.
