Romanian municipalities push forward major park projects

In Alba Iulia, work has begun on the new North Park, an 8‑hectare green space slated for completion by June 2029. The project, costing over 27 million lei with 21.1 million lei from EU funds, will include walking aisles, water features, sports fields, playgrounds, a multifunctional pavilion and extensive landscaping aimed at biodiversity and community use.

Separately, the Sector 1 council in Bucharest is set to vote on a proposal to take over the administration of Floreasca Park – about 63,400 m² – for five years. The move is justified as a need for unified management of public space and to align park investments with local cultural and recreational programmes. The proposal stresses that the park’s status will remain unchanged, despite recent controversy over a planned demolition of the nearby Floreasca Cinema.

Both initiatives reflect growing municipal focus on upgrading urban green areas and enhancing community facilities across Romania.
