Romanian museums feature notable artworks for October exhibitions
Romanian museums are highlighting specific artworks through their October ‘Exhibit of the Month’ initiatives.
The Argeș County Museum has selected the wooden sculpture ‘Musceleancă la izvor’ by Constantin Vasilescu. The piece, which was acquired in 1964, depicts a woman from the Muscel region in traditional attire alongside a child. Vasilescu, whose talent was recognized by painter Costin Petrescu, is noted for his ability to blend technical wood carving with the expressive strength of Romanian folklore.
Simultaneously, the Lower Danube Museum in Călărași is presenting ‘Rod’ by artist Liviu Suhar. The work explores the intersection of Romanian village traditions and spiritual symbolism. Suhar, a former dean of the ‘G. Enescu’ Faculty of Arts in Iași, drew inspiration from his upbringing in the mountain village of Iacobeni to create pieces that bridge the real and spiritual worlds.
