Romanian official and Moldovan fraud suspects detained

A 57‑year‑old public servant from Mehedinți County in Romania was investigated for continuous intellectual fraud after allegedly issuing false technical inspection reports for agricultural machinery. Police from Gorj County carried out two home searches, executed a detention order in Drobeta‑Turnu Severin and held the suspect for 24 hours pending a prosecutor’s appearance.

In Chișinău, Moldova, a 77‑year‑old man was defrauded of 400,000 lei through a sophisticated phone scam that used fake identities of police and banking officials to extract cash. Prosecutors detained three youths – a 23‑year‑old courier, a 21‑year‑old accomplice and a 16‑year‑old who recruited them – for their roles in the scheme.
