Romanian PNL Party Internal Rift as Vasile Blaga Says Small Clique Seizes Control

At an extraordinary congress of Romania's National Liberal Party (PNL), former party president Vasile Blaga claimed the organisation has been "under siege" for some time, alleging that a hand of four‑to‑five people has been using the party for personal gain. Blaga asserted that the party now has a clear leader, Ilie Bolojan, praising him and warning that anyone who ignores party decisions is no longer a true party but "a group of people chasing positions".

A second report links Bolojan to Blaga's resurgence, describing Blaga as a controversial figure nicknamed “the Bulldog”. It outlines Blaga’s three‑decade political career, past legal troubles—including a 2016 DNA case from which he was acquitted in 2022—and his continued influence within the PNL hierarchy. Together, the pieces depict a power struggle within the party, with Blaga aligning with Bolojan against a perceived small ruling clique.
