Romanian police raid lawyers, medics over accident‑victim data scheme

The General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police carried out 11 raids in Bucharest and Ilfov, targeting lawyers, medical personnel and a police officer suspected of illegally obtaining personal and medical information of road‑accident victims. According to the police statement, the data were passed to a civil‑law firm that then offered litigation services for compensation claims, charging success fees of up to 30 % of recoveries. Prosecutors allege a coordinated network of medical staff, law‑firm representatives and a police officer profited from funneling victims into these contracts. The operation also included 15 summonses for the individuals identified. The investigation, conducted by DIICOT, aims to determine the extent of the scheme, the financial gains involved, and whether further preventive measures or criminal charges will be applied.
