Romanian police arrest man and teen over prostitution trafficking networks

A 37‑year‑old man from Cireșoaia was detained after police determined he transported a woman from Bistrița‑Năsăud to multiple towns across Romania to force her into prostitution. Authorities seized his properties in Bistrița‑Năsăud and Cluj, held him for 24 hours and will present him to a court with a preventive measure proposed.

Separately, a 16‑year‑old from Hunedoara has been charged with trafficking a 15‑year‑old girl after prosecutors say he persuaded her to flee home and engage in prostitution in several counties, including Hunedoara, Alba, Sibiu and Brașov. The teen allegedly rented hotel rooms, placed ads online, monitored the victim’s phone and collected the proceeds. He was initially under house arrest, but after violating restrictions, a preventive detention order was issued.

Both cases are being investigated by Romanian law enforcement agencies, including the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
