Romania police conduct widespread road safety operations
Police forces across several Romanian counties have conducted extensive road safety operations to prevent accidents and enforce traffic laws. In Brașov, a four-hour operation involving over 40 officers and 14 speed measurement devices resulted in more than 280 sanctions, primarily for speeding. These measures included the seizure of driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates.
In Bihor, a similar large-scale action on the DN1 highway utilized drones and radar systems, leading to 102 sanctions and the removal of 12 drivers from the road. Other regional efforts focused on specific safety concerns: Brașov authorities also targeted pedestrian safety, sanctioning 24 individuals for irregular crossings, while Sălaj police launched a week-long campaign to increase pedestrian visibility and driver awareness.
Beyond speed enforcement, these operations included technical vehicle inspections and alcohol testing to combat driving under the influence.
