Romania's Operation Jupiter crackdown seizes assets and uncovers animal waste, luxury car fraud

Romanian prosecutors and the National Police have launched a large‑scale anti‑organized‑crime campaign known as Operation Jupiter (or Jupiter 5). Over several days the authorities carried out more than 400 home searches and 165 summons nationwide, targeting offences ranging from fiscal evasion, fraud and money‑laundering to illegal arms, contraband, wildlife violations and illegal waste dumping. The operation’s estimated financial damage exceeds 104 million lei (about €20 million) and includes a separate case in Constanţa County where police discovered abandoned carcasses of sheep and cattle and an improvised burial pit, highlighting illegal animal sacrifice and waste disposal. In a related investigation into a cross‑border luxury‑car scheme, police seized eight high‑end vehicles, cash, weapons and electronic equipment, and detained six suspects. The coordinated actions aim to document criminal activity, seize illicit assets and recover losses, with ongoing prosecutions across Romania and cooperation from German investigators.
