Romanian authorities launch massive ‘Jupiter 5’ raid, 400+ searches reveal €100 m‑plus criminal damage

Romanian prosecutors attached to the Supreme Court and the General Inspectorate of the Police carried out a coordinated multi‑day crackdown dubbed Operation “Jupiter 5”. Over three days (June 9‑10, 2026) more than 400 domiciliary searches were executed, with 416 search warrants and 165 seizure orders applied nationwide. The raids targeted a broad spectrum of offences, including fiscal evasion, fraud, money‑laundering, contraband, forgery, corruption, illegal weapons possession, as well as environmental violations such as illegal mining, waste dumping and fictitious timber transport. Authorities estimate the financial impact of the investigated cases at roughly 104.9 million lei (about €100 million). The operation aims to dismantle criminal networks, recover illicit assets, and reinforce public safety through enhanced institutional cooperation.

The extensive joint action underscores the state’s resolve to combat organized crime and complex financial schemes, with the expectation that seized assets will be confiscated and the perpetrators brought before the courts.
