Romanian police hand out over 42,000 lei in fines for traffic violations in Dolj and Argeș

Police in Romania's Dolj county conducted a two‑hour operation targeting electric‑scooter riders. Officers issued 117 traffic citations, including 34 fines to scooter drivers amounting to roughly 24,000 lei. The action highlighted 27 scooter‑related accidents recorded in the first half of 2026, two of them serious, and reiterated legal requirements such as a minimum age of 14, mandatory helmets for riders under 16, and a ban on carrying passengers.

In Argeș county, traffic police from Pitești carried out road checks in both urban areas and nearby communes. The operation resulted in 139 contraventional sanctions totaling 18,381.25 lei, the seizure of eight driver’s licences and the withdrawal of six vehicle registrations. Violations included 36 speeding offenses, 14 seat‑belt or child‑restraint failures, nine cases of illegal passenger transport and two infractions involving freight vehicles. Two drivers were also caught with blood‑alcohol levels above the legal limit and were referred for medical testing.
