Romanian police intensify traffic safety checks in Dumbrăvița and Sibiu
The Local Police in the commune of Dumbrăvița carried out a five‑day monitoring campaign from 5 – 9 June, targeting electric‑scooter riders. Officers inspected high‑traffic zones, bicycle paths, parks and residential areas, issuing contraventional penalties totaling 6,885 lei. Violations included riding without a helmet, single‑wheel manoeuvres, transporting passengers and towing other vehicles. The majority of fined riders were minors, prompting authorities to stress the need for early road‑safety education through school campaigns, informational leaflets and contests.
In a separate operation on 9 June, road police from the Sibiu County Police Inspectorate conducted a coordinated speed‑check on the DN 1 corridor. Within four hours, 148 traffic fines were issued—95 for speeding, plus penalties for seat‑belt non‑use and other infractions. Six driver’s licences were seized, four vehicle registration certificates were withdrawn and technical checks were performed on 18 vehicles. No accidents were reported during the action, and drivers received informational material about the HUB MAI platform for penalty points.
