Romanian police intensify traffic safety enforcement in Covasna and Suceava

Police departments in the Romanian counties of Covasna and Suceava have launched targeted traffic safety initiatives to reduce accidents and improve road discipline.

In Covasna, authorities conducted extensive checks on vulnerable road users during August. Out of over 1,200 participants inspected, police issued 845 sanctions. The majority of these penalties—743—were issued to cyclists, followed by 60 for electric scooter users and 42 for moped or motorcycle riders. Approximately 670 of the total actions were issued as warnings, emphasizing a focus on prevention and education regarding the risks of non-compliance.

In Suceava, police are intensifying efforts throughout September to prevent accidents caused by failing to yield to pedestrians. Operations are specifically concentrated near schools, public transport stations, and high-traffic pedestrian zones to coincide with the start of the school year. The initiative aims to reduce accidents through increased police visibility, driver education, and the identification of road infrastructure deficiencies.
